Abstract(in English) | Video streaming services via multi-cell wireless systems are one of the emerging mobile services. For these services, wireless multicast techniques are essential to efficiently use radio resources such as transmission power and bandwidth. On the other hand, wireless mesh networks, in which multiple access points (AP) connect with each other by wireless links, have attracted attention because they enable us to flexibly extend services area without infrastructure limitation a large investment. However, if we use mesh networks for video streaming service using wireless multicast, two problems will arise as follows. First, since data packets for user stations (STAs) have to be transferred via multiple inter AP hops from the sources to the destinations, the transfer delay increases as the network size increases. Moreover, it is significant to use bandwidth effectively because AP links are shared by many STAs in the service area. In this paper, first, we show how large impact inappropriate AP assignment to STAs gives on the service quality such as delay and on the bandwidth efficiency. Then, to solve the problem mentioned above, we propose a new AP assigning algorithm in which an STA connects to the AP providing the miniimum delay without causing extra delay to the existing STAs in the area. Furthermore, we propose an adaptive PP/PMP switching scheme improving average delay performance by prioritizing STAs experiencing large delays. Our algorithms are validated through computer simulations. |
