Service trends, technologies, and standardization activities for IPTV

Abstract(in English) This paper describes the latest trends of IPTV from the aspects of services, technologies, and standardization activities which is being progressed over the world. Firstly, common features and differences between IPTV and Cable Television systems are introduced. In terms of IPTV services, the three regions, which are Europe, North America, and Japan, are compared. Then, essential technologies that constitute IPTV system such as network architecture, an advanced access network, IP multicast, and home network issues are studied. In addition, the paper addresses standardization activities, which are FG-IPTV commenced by ITU-T in July 2006, ITU-T SG 9 whose study area covers network video transmission, and the latest work in other fora.
