Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Existing methods for simultaneously handling head pose variations and facial expressions are based on tracking features on a face mesh model. However, these feature-based methods requre troublesome preparation steps such as manually selecting feature points or complex face models. To avoid such costly preparation steps for better ease of use, we have proposed a novel method using a variable-intensity template that models face shape and facial expressions. A variable-intensity template consists of a set of discrete interest points on a rigid face shape model, and can model changes in facial expressions using the luminance variation for each point. Our proposed method estimates head poses and facial expressions simultaneously utilizing a particle filter framework. In this paper, we theoretically disccussed that our method is pose-invariant despite a shape model error.
