Consideration on Pro-MPEG FEC for IPTV and It's Experimental Evaluation

Abstract(in English) IPTV, which is a video streaming service for home television sets using home network access, is now attracting attention. To provide a high quality IPTV streaming service using IP networks which have no guarantee of quality, it is required to achieve appropriate guarantee of communication quality for IPTV services by using error correction technology. And to improve quality of service and its experience, it is required to be focused not only on performance of quality assurance but also on its adverse effect of result, such as latency and operation response time. In this paper, we discuss and study an application of forward error correction specification for professional IP video transporting equipment, which is issued by Pro-MPEG forum, to IPTV. We state the problem on variable rate streams, and propose its solution. Some results of experimental evaluation on the testbed network environment are shown.
