QoE estimation method for interconnected VoIP networks employing different codecs

Abstract(in English) In mobile networks, the speech codecs use higher compression rates than those in fixed networks because the radio resources are limited. This leads to a heterogeneous network environment, in which different speech codecs are used in fixed and mobile networks. Therefore, it is important to establish an objective evaluation method for such a heterogeneous network environment from the viewpoint of designing and managing the quality of experience (QoE) of end-to-end communication services. In estimating the end-to-end listening quality of such services, the conventional method takes the sum of the equipment impairment factors in individual segments on a psychological scale. However, this model cannot accurately estimate the overall quality. Therefore, this paper proposes a new method for estimating the overall quality based on the quality in each individual segment. Experimental results show that this model achieves better quality estimation performance than the conventional method.
