Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Different culture determined ethnic groups might have different criteria of communication messages. It is often difficult to understand and appreciate what are meanings shared by other cultures as there are differences in facial expressions of emotion. When we consider the facial communication mechanism in relation to cultures, the duality such as above commonality and differences are one of useful viewpoints. The meaning of facial communication is determined relatively by many factors such as facial physiognomy, cultural norms, display rules, interpersonal relationships, times and social contexts. The study aimed to clarify the facial features derived facial expressions of happiness and anger by 3D-measurement system in relation to social skills (ACT, KiSS18) and ethnical features. University students in three counties were served as participants to express emotions (straight, happy, and anger) by their own experiences. Using 32 physiognomic indices, there were obtained that some indices showed significant ethnicity differences supported previous studies. Strength of emotion was as below: Koreans>Chinese>Japanese, and females were more expressive than males. Expression of happiness evoked facial extension both length-wise and breath-wise direction. Facial shrinking was obtained under anger expression condition like mid face area. The eyes area was the largest under straight condition. Physiognomic features during emotional states were differed in relation to cultural norms
