Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We report a silica-based solid photonic band gap fibre with an attenuation of 3.6 dB/km at 1520 nm. By using the first band-gap and a large refractive index difference of 2.8% in the periodic structure of the cladding, we achieve a wide transmission range and the same fibre diameter as conventional telecom fibres. The transmission bandwidth of the fabricated fibre is over 400 nm and covers the entire telecom wavelength range from O-band to U-band (1260 nm~1675 nm). A zero-dispersion wavelength below 1.3 μm and a large anomalous dispersion are achieved by using unique dispersion characteristics of a photonic band gap fibre.
