Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Polarization mode dispersion (PMD) is one of the stringent limits for upgrading 40Gbps or beyond in ultra-fast optical transmission systems. PMD varies due to environmental changes such as temperature change or mechanical vibrations in stochastic nature. In order to guarantee the reliability of transmission systems, an accurate understanding of the variation characteristics of PMD in installed fiber cables is critical. In this paper, we report long-term PMD continuous measurements (about a year) of installed dispersion-shifted fiber (DSF) cables. We also compared the results of two different cable plants.
