Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we propose a howling canceller that uses a distance measure between the loudspeaker and the microphone, by noticing that the howling frequency depends on the distance. Unlike conventional howling cancellers that estimate the transfer function of the feedback path from the loudspeaker to the microphone, the proposed method needs to estimate only the distance of the two devices. The distance is easily measured by the time difference between the pilot signal transmitted from the loudspeaker and the received signal at the microphone. Multiple candidates of the howling frequency are computed from the distance measure and the howling is eliminated by the cascaded notch filters that have nulls at the howling frequencies. We implement the proposed howling canceller on a DSP and evaluate its capability of howling cancellation in a practical environment.
