An Experiment on Media Synchronization Control for MPEG Video

Abstract(in English) To support MPEG video, this paper enhances a media synchronization mechanism which the authors previously proposed. In the enhanced mechanism, coarce-grained media synchronization control is performed for decoding time, and fine-grained control is carried out for presentation time. The mechanism adopts the condition of picture skipping depending on the picture type to recover from asynchrony. The paper presents the results of a lip-synch experiment using an Ethernet to demonstrate the validity of the mechanism. The mechanism is also compared with other mechanisms in which media synchronization control is carried out for either decoding or presentation time.
