A Study on Switching Methods in the On-board Processor for the Mobile Satellite Communications System

Abstract(in English) Advanced Space Communications Research Laboratory (ASC) has been developing the On-Board Processor (OBP) for the multi-beam mobile satellite communications system. In this system, the Multi-Carrier Time Division Multiple Access (MC-TDMA) method has been adopted to realize high rate data transmission as well as voice transmission, however MC-TDMA causes OBP internal congestion in several cases. This paper describes the computer simulation results for traffic capacity and the studies for OBP design in some switching methods. The evaluation results by computer simulation show that the probability of internal congestion due to the TDMA system is very small in the Slot-Synchronization Switching method. The estimation results for components show that the adoption of the Slot-Synchronization Switching method realizes to make the OBP compact and light weight and to make power consumption of the OBP small.
