Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Satellite communications system is recognized as an important part of the GII for its advantages such as wide area coverage, flexibility of network configuration and multicast connection capability. But it's inferior to optical fiber networks in terms of capacity of each link. Therefore, it's very important to develop high data rate satellite communications systems. As the first step toward developing HDR SatCom systems, we have conducted the 156Mbps ATM transmission experiment over satellite. In order to utilize ATM protocol in satellite communications network, it's needed to evaluate whether this protocol works properly over satellite links, which have different error characteristics from optical fiber links. We have carried out measurement of the fundamental characteristics of ATM/SDH transmission over satellite links. This paper describes the experimental result of this experiment.
