Abstract(in English) Gigabit satellite communication systems have been recognized as an important part of the GII. Its integration with terrestrial fiber optic networks is very important to realize the GII. In this paper, the authors focus the study of the way to achieve compatibility and transparency of ATM/SDH protocols in the gigabit satellite communications systems. The cell loss reduction nethod against burst errors in satellite links is applied as the first approach, and SDH-frame-based TDMA slot configuration is proposed for multiple access satellite links.
