Abstract(in English) | All-optical serial-to-parallel conversion (SPC) is a technology that enables the processing of ultrahigh-bit-rate serial optical signals with electronic processors by decreasing the bit rate. In this paper, we describe a self-synchronized SPC scheme for use in photonic packet-switching network nodes, which uses an extracted first bit pulse from an incoming asynchronous packet as a control pulse for the SPC. The first-bit-pulse extractor and the all-optical SPC module are constructed by using a photoconductive sample-and-hold circuit made of an InP-based OEIC and an ultrafast semiconductor all-optical switch (LOTOS), respectively. We demonstrate recognition of 2-bit serial labels for 100-Gb/s optical packets by the self-synchronized SPC. We also demonstrate 1x4 self-routing of the packets by using the recognized 2-bit signals as controls. |
