Abstract(in English) Optical packet switching network technology is expected to be one of the promising solutions for recent increase of traffic in IP backbone networks, since elimination of optical-electrical-optical conversion removes the bottleneck of electrical processing, resulting in fully utilization of WDM transmission capacity. In addition, this technology can decrease system power consumption and the number of devices. Self routing switching is considered to be one of the feasible systems. However, in this system, the packet header could be long enough to decrease its bandwidth utilization. In order to shorten the header length, we have proposed an optical packet forwarding system using label update by delaying preamble. This paper describes the design of the optical packet switching node of the proposed architecture, and reports an implementation of prototype node. Through the experimentation of optical packet forwarding, the feasibility of the architecture is confirmed.
