Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We are developing a practical Braille translation system of mathematical documents. The system consists of 4 components ; 1) a OCR system which can recognize mathematical formulae, 2) a editor by which a user can edit formulae, 3) a Wakachigaki (segmenting texts by inserting spaces between lexemes) engine optimized for mathematical terms, and 4) a Braille translation engine which can translate formulae into Braille. In this report, we propose a practical method using the system to translate a table into Braille which was not translated by the system. An outline of the system is ; 1) recognizing a table by the OCR system, 2) correcting and editing it by the editor, 3) segmenting words or texts in it by the Wakachigaki engine, and 4) translating the words or the texts and a structure of the table into Braille. Then, a table frequently becomes large in Braille, therefore the Braille translation engine processes a table to reduce its size, for example, gives a brief notation for each word in a table, separates a big table, and so on.
