Abstract(in English) In this paper, a design procedure of low sidelobe broadband tapered leaky-wave microstrip antenna is proposed. We can appropriately choose the substrate thicknesses as well as the strip widths to obtain the desired complex propagation constants of leaky modes. From the design procedure of the original multi-section microstrip leaky-wave antenna, we can insert a microstrip line with a thicker substrate into each microstrip line section except the first microstrip line which is connected to the feeding network and set an estimated survival power ratio for this additional microstrip leaky-wave antenna. In this way, the leaky modes provide the desired decaying amplitude function, while the phase constant is kept constant. Thus, all the microstrip antenna sections can radiate in the same direction to avoiding phase aberration. A design example is also demonstrated. The simulated results show that with the same broadband radiation bandwidth, the radiation patterns illustrate the low sidelobe characteristics of the broadband tapered microstrip leaky-wave antennas designed by our modified algorithm.
