Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The neural basis of two types of tool-use gestures (pantomime and BPO) are discussed. The BPO is a gesture pattern in which people represent objects (tools) by hand shapes or movements instead of pantomiming ordinary tool-use gestures (pantomime). The neural process involved in BPO have not been well understood although BPO is well known as one of the error patterns in patients. We introduce an fMRI study, which compared brain activation during the BPO with that during the pantomime gestures using fMRI in normal subjects.
