Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Non-verbal information such as gazes, head orientations, facial expressions and gestures is extremely influential one not only in everyday communication between persons, and also in information-technology-based electronic communication between persons and computers. This paper tackles two issues : (1) quantitative modeling on roles of gazes, head orientations and facial expressions in human communications, (2) exhibiting guidelines for communication interfaces taking advantage of the quantitative models. We carry out investigations for analyzing gaze directions, head orientations and facial expressions, then based on the analysis we develop quantitative models ; first, that express approvals/disapprovals, intentions and second, that conveys impressions in human communication scenes. Finally, novel communication interfaces using non-verbal information are tested by users' behavioral, physiological and psychological analysis.
