Abstract(in English) | Hollow optical fibers for terahertz wave delivery are designed and fabricated. Fibers with silver inner coating work as metal hollow waveguides and experimental results show that transmission losses are 7.5-8.0dB/m at 200-μm wavelength for 1-mm diameter fibers. This measured losses coincide well with theoretical losses of TE_11 mode that was expected as a dominant mode in metal hollow fibers. A dielectric-loaded, metal hollow waveguides are fabricated by inserting a polyethylene film with silver coating into a plastic tubing. Measured losses of the dielectric-loaded fiber at 200μm are 1.3dB for 3.0-mm-bore hollow optical fibers. Bending losses are also low in dielectric loaded fibers and additional losses due to bending are around 1 dB. Although the fibers have relative large diameter of 3mm, they are flexible and the minimum bending radius is around 10cm. |
