Abstract(in English) On passive optical network topology used for access optical fiber networks, fault location by ordinary optical time domain reflectometers is difficult. Because a probe optical pulse from an OTDR is divided passively into fiber branches by an optical star coupler, and the divided pulses propagate simultaneously along each fiber branch, we cannot figure out correctly fiber line failures such as disconnection or loss increase. Thus we propose two novel methods for fault location of PON using OTDR, and describe that some experimental tests show effectiveness of the methods.
