Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The Engineering Test Satellite VIII (ETS-VIII) that was launched on December 18, 2006 was equipped with two large-scale reflector multiple beam antennas (MBAs) radiated by active phased array feeders to establish a communication link with a cellular phone-sized ground terminal via satellite in the S-band frequency. ETS-VIII also equipped with two sets of Beam Forming Network (BFN) that adjust the antenna pattern of the transmitting (TX) and receiving (RX) feeders to form multiple beam. NTT had designed and developed one of the BFN (BFN2) that can form each beam independently. To verify in-orbit status function of MBA system, NTT has conducted initial in-orbit antenna pattern measurement. As result, we confirmed the BFN2 and the MBA is in normal status.
