Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we discuss word-level time delay in simultaneous interpreting by conducting quantitative analysis. The mechanism of simultaneous interpreting has been hardly understood because of the complexity in its translation process and lack of large-scale databases. We have provided word-level temporal information for the simultaneous interpretation database at Nagoya University by utilizing speech recognition techniques, and investigated time delay between words. Based on the results of the analysis, we observed different characteristics of time delay phenomena between Japanese-to-English and English-to-Japanese simultaneous interpreting, and also confirmed factors of time delay occurrences.
