Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We demonstrated ultimate linewidth-tolerant 20-Gbps QPSK homodyne transmission using a spectrum sliced Fabry-Perot laser diode (FP-LD) signal light source. DGD tolerance was clarified, and BER characteristics less than 10^<-8> after 80-km transmission was successfully attained. In the experiment, a pilot carrier, which provided an absolute optical phase reference, was polarization-multiplexed with QPSK optical signal. At the receiver side, self-homodyne was performed using the pilot carrier; phase noise cancellation was performed because the pilot carrier had identical phase noise to the optical signal. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first experimental demonstration of multi-bit-per-symbol modulation/demodulation using a FP-LD as a cost effective multi-wavelength light-source.
