Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This study explores communication of emotion between people of different languages and cultures. Based on a three-layer model of expressive speech perception proposed in a previous work, three experiments were conducted. The results from the Japanese subjects (from a previous study) were compared with those of Taiwanese subjects (current work). The results suggest that the two language speakers use primarily the same semantic primitives, but the secondary primitives (i.e. non-primary ones) are different. Analysis of the relationship between the experiment results and the acoustic features of experiment voices was also conducted. The analysis results suggest that F0 plays an important role of the perception of semantic primitives.
