Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) TCP has been used by many applications in the Internet widely. TCP and related mechanisms, such as RED (Random Early Detection) are still developed to improve the throughput performance. RED is a well-known TCP traffic control mechanism and works in an IP-router. When network falls into traffic congestion, RED drops the TCP/IP packets randomly to invoke TCP congestion control mechanisms. Congestion avoidance mechanisms of TCP and RED are working very well. However, TCP mechanism causes RTO (Retransmission Time Out) and takes longer data transmission time, because RED drops TCP packets of the same TCP flow, continulusly. We focus on this RTO problem, and propose a modified RED mechanism taking into account TCP flow to avoid RTOs. We show that our proposed RED mechanism reduces RTOs even though heavy traffic congestion by computer simulation..
