Users' Behaviour and Pricing Method for Maximizing Provider's Revenue in VOD Type IP Broadcast Service

Abstract(in English) Recently, there is a remarkable growth in IP broadcast services. There are flat-rate and time-based pricing schemes, and it is a issue to obtain the optimal price depending on the pricing scheme and services provided. An optimal price should exist for IP broadcast services based on several viewpoints such as maximizing the revenue of IP broadcast service provider, maximizing network efficiency, maximizing user's utility, etc. The purpose of this paper is to clarify the optimal price based on maximizing the revenue of IP broadcast service provider. Two kinds of pricing schemes, that is flat-rate pricing and time-based pricing, and three kinds of price elasticity are considered for VOD type IP broadcast service. The relation between revenue and price for each scheme and each price elasticity are shown. From the simulation results, the optimal price that maximizes the revenue of IP broadcast service provider is obtained.
