Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It is well known that frequency below the 6GHz band is suitable for mobile communication system, and hence many wireless communication systems such as 3rd generation cellular system and wireless LAN are assigned within this frequency band in Japan. As a consequence, there are not enough spare bands for the future wireless broadband system. In this situation, it is needed to use these frequencies, which are "finite resources," in a more efficient manner, including the utilization of multiple wireless communication systems with intelligence, and cognitive radio is one candidate technology to solve this issue. Cognitive radio system consists of multiple wireless access systems that cover overlapping area, and cognitive terminals that use one or more wireless access systems simultaneously to communicate with network. In this paper, the experimental systems for cognitive radio are introduced. We have achieved continuous streaming service with the basic experimental system that supports both WiMAX and WLAN, and have introduced an experimental system that supports EVDO, WiMAX and WLAN for inter-radio system switching. And, we have showed some simulation results using OPNET simulator. We will evaluate the effect of cognitive radio through indoor/outdoor experiment this year. Part of this project is funded by Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of the Japanese Government.
