Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) When we drive a car, visual information is substantially utilized. Drivers perceive accurate heading direction as well as road ahead, and then control a steering wheel to lead their car to a suitable direction. Land and Lee (1994) reported that drivers gaze on the 'tangent point' of line-of-sight on the inside of curve. In this paper, we developed a driving simulator with controlling driver's gaze, and investigated the effects of gaze control on driving stability and accuracy. In results, we found that driver's gaze induced to the tangent-point improved driving stability, but decreased accuracy. Thus, it is suggested that the efficacy of the gaze control is limited to the driving stability.
