Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Amplitude of auditory-evoked neuromagnetic responses, N1m and P2m components, originating in the auditory cortex, reflects acoustic properties of input sounds and also are modulated by endogenous factors such as memory and attention. In order to investigate the modulation of the auditory cortical activity, we recorded MEG responses elicited by musical chords. In control session, two kinds of chords were presented alternatively. In main session, the same chords were preceded by other two priming chords to form a 4-chord musical sequence. The amplitude of the auditory responses did not differ between the two chords in the control session. However, there was a significant difference between the two chords primed by the preceding chords in the main session. These results suggest the modulation of the auditory cortical activity by attention and expectation, which may be associated with the priming effects of musical context.
