Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper presents an efficient memory access interface architecture for H.264/AVC encoder. In the design of H.264/AVC archtecture, the intensive memory access becomes a very challenging issue due to the introducing of some new features for the motion estimation and INTRA mode decision. In this work, by carefully analyzing the feature of the memory access of the motion estimation and the motion compensation process we proposed two efficient methods for the DMA (Direct Memory Access) module. One method is to introduce a buffer in the DMA to regulate the irregular memory access. The other one is an efficient memory mapping method to decrease the memory response delay. Using these two methods proposed architecture could save about 50% access cycles.
