An Automatic Tracking Method for a Moving Object using DWT coefficients in JPEG2000

Abstract(in English) Recently, a method for correspondence search between two images, which is called POC (Phase-Only Correlation) method, has been proposed. The coarse-to-fine technique based on the POC method can hierarchically search correspondence points from coarser images to finer images and it can contribute to a high accuracy and high speed tracking of the moving object. In this paper, we propose an algorithm which implements an automatic detection of the ROI region using the tracking technique based on the POC method. By applying the coarse-to-fine technique and the space scalability in DWT, we can implement a high accurate and efficient tracking of the moving object. In the proposed method, DWT coefficients of an image which are obtained from an encoder of JPEG2000 are used for the tracking of the moving object. Therefore, if this method is integrated into the encoder of JPEG2000, we can detect the moving object simultaneously with an encoding process and expect the great efficiency for the use of the ROI feature in JPEG2000.
