Measurement Method of Optical Fiber Nonlinearity Coefficient with Coherent Heterodyne Detection

Abstract(in English) Various methods have been proposed for the measurement of optical fiber nonlinearity coefficient using the self-phase modulation or cross-phase modulation. In this paper, we propose a relatively simple measurement method using coherent heterodyne detection technique and cross-phase modulation. The measurement results with the proposed method almost agree with those with a popular beat signal method for four different fiber samples. We also show that the proposed method is also effective for relatively long fibers for which it is difficult to apply the signal method.
