Abstract(in English) We investigate chromatic dispersion and splice characteristics of trench-assisted bend-insensitive fibers (trench fiber) as a function of a trench position. Trench position located far from a core is preferred to suppress chromatic dispersion deviation from the standard SMF (S-SMF). The splice characteristics of the trench fibers with optimized trench position are confirmed by a simulation and fusion splice experiments. A trench fiber with optimized trench position has high compatibility with S-SMF, and the trench fiber allows widely use in access systems including FTTH.
