Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we introduce a binarization method suitable for recognition of images under influence of spatially continuous difference of brightness caused by varying reflection angle and optical system, and discontinuous difference caused by markings and shadows of objects. To cope with continuous change of brightness, several dynamic thresholding techniques have been employed, which are in some conditions affected by discontinuous influence of shadows and markings. In proposed method, we estimate varying brightness for planes corresponded to combinations of shadows and markings, so that influence of shadows and markings are isolated from computation of threshold as difference of planes in which pixels belong to.
