Abstract(in English) | The disabled persons who were not able to use joystick by their hand have difficulty in operating the electric wheelchair. In this study, we developed the control system consisting of the control signal generation software and control circuit. The eye position is detected from face image captured by CCD camera. The face inclination is devived from the positions of both eyes. The control signal for the operation of electric wheelchair was generated with the information of the central position between both eyes and the face inclination. The control circuit converted control digital signal into control voltage to operate the electric wheel chair. In addition, the incorrect input removal algorithm was introduced into eye detection system to prevent unexpected operation induced by incorrect eye input. The experiment evalated the operationality of electric wheelchair using eye input device and joystick. Using both eye input device and joystick, the subject operated the electric wheelchair involving the left or right turn.The experimental result showed that the electric wheelchair moved stably by operation with eye input as well as joystick. In addition, the eye input with incorrect input rejection provided more smooth operation of the electric wheelchair. |
