Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In order to explore the transmission characteristics of a tapered dielectric waveguide, we apply a modal analysis technique to the calculated results of electromagnetic field simulators. The field of the tapered waveguide at any transverse section can be expressed as a sum of the propagating modal fields in a cylindrical waveguide having the corresponding diameter, and the expansion coefficients of them help us to explain the physical meaning. Moreover, we apply this technique to the investigation to shorten the beam diameter converter which consists of the tapered waveguide.
