Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have developed and embodied virtual face-to-face communication system for human interaction. The system provides virtual communication environment in which remote talkers can share embodied interaction through their avatars "VirtualActor/VirtualWave" in the same virtual space. We confirmed the importance of sharing the embodiment for remote talkers in the same space, the effectiveness of face-to-face scene, and the importance of correspondence between talkers and their own avatars by using the system. Furthermore, we developed and embodied communication avatar "PuppetAvatar" in which remote talkers can operate their own avatar by their hand motion. This paper propose a "PuppetAvatar" by using a trackball for simple manipulation of an embodied avatar, and the prototype of the system is developed. This telecommunication system would provide effective communication with not a particular measurement device but a general input device. The effectiveness of the system is demonstrated by sensory evaluation in communication experiments of comparison with system using by a 3D mouse or a wireless mouse.
