Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we propose a new technique for the objective evaluation of marks made from pulp fibers that can replaces the usual sensory evaluation method. After quantification of the definition of marks, from sensual evaluations obtained by a paired comparison test, our proposed technique extracts image features that can express the results of the sensory evaluation, from statistical image processing, and evaluates the marks. The feature extraction is performed using Gabor functions. The extracted features are projected into a subspace and residual vectors are calculated from them. We define a non-similarity measure between samples by the Euclidean distance of residual vectors. Linear regression is used to model the relationship between objective evaluations and sensory evaluations. Experimental results show a high correlation between measurements by our method using image processing and those by sensory evaluation.
