Effect of Vertical Beam Shaping for Base Station Antenna in Mobile Communication System : Optimization with Genetic Algorithm

Abstract(in English) In mobile communication system using cellular, an ideal vertical pattern of base station antenna is supposed that the pattern provides equal received power in own cell and influence of interference to others is small. As base station antenna, we use array antenna that elements are arranged vertically. However, we can not get such an ideal antenna pattern because the aperture area which is determined by antenna length and distance of each element is definite. And in this case, the optimized pattern depends on the target system. In this document, we set W-CDMA system as the target and evaluate the beam shaping effect with using the genetic algorithm to maximize the downlink capacity. The result is that there is a flex between the quantity of element and increase of downlink capacity by the optimization. In fact, the increase is kept at most about 1.1 times larger than normalized antenna pattern until particular quantity of elements, but beyond the quantity, the increase of downlink capacity meets sudden growth. And we show that the quantity of element on the flex increases with the radius of cell and that the radius is 1km, then the flex needs about 40 elements.
