Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We propose and experimentally demonstrate the polarization control of single transverse mode 850 nm VCSELs using sub-wavelength gold nanorod array fabricated on the top surface of VCSEL. The polarization dependent scattering of emitted light from anisotropic gold nanorods enables perfect polarization control with suppressing the light absorption in gold layer. The maximum output power achieved using nanorod array structures is about 1 mW with side mode supression ratio > 45dB and orthogonal polarization suppression ratio ≈ 21 dB at an oxide aperture diameter either equal or less than 3μm. This nanorod array loaded VCSELs can be used as top emitting polarized light sources.
