Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have proposed a speech production substitute which makes up for articulatory function, and which can be controlled by position or motion of user's fingers. Particularly, we consider auditory speech recognition process so that the speech synthesizer can be realized by few parameters as much as possible. We made a prototype model using formant synthesis software on a personal computer to get a road map for the design of the speech production substitute, and investigated about following two points. (1) We extracted parameters for the synthesizer from monosyllabic voices, and reduced the number of the parameters by listening tests. (2) We tried to synthesize continuous speech sound, by tracing a graphic tablet using a pen. It was cleared that random noise sound is necessary for the monosyllabic speech synthesis, however we got some of recognizable speech sound in the continuous voice synthesized by using the pen tablet method, in spite of they have no random noise sound. From the experimental results, some useful design concept was indicated for the speech production substitute.
