Confidential Pattern Extraction from Document Images Based on the Color Uniformity of the Pattern

Abstract(in English) Recently information leaks not only caused by thieves but also happened by PC users negligently are getting familiar. It is the most effective strategy to prohibit the users from bringing out the confidential information for those cases. Hence the technology has been required which can restrict the data flow of confidential information. In this paper we propose a method which extracts a confidential pattern printed as watermark from document images that were obtained by scanning paper documents. Our method is carried out with two steps. The first step is to find partial patterns whose shape, position and color are common among pages on the documents. The second is to extract the whole common pattern as a watermark. Experiments with sample documents with watermarks showed that the watermark written in the thick-stroke font can be extracted with high accuracy. We also analyzed the factor of watermark extraction failure on all documents on which our method didn't work successfully.
