Abstract(in English) | This is a comparative study of the maximum ratio combining diversity and the selection diversity technologies in the up-link multi-site communication systems. The concern with the multi-site communication systems using the Radio Over Fiber (ROF) technology has been growing for the last several years. It is possible to transmit the analog signal on the radio frequency over the optical fiber with less degradation using ROF. In this paper, we assume that the multi-site communication system consists a macro base station and some micro base stations, which is connected by ROF technology each other. The conventional up-link channel makes use of the selection diversity technique that the mobile switching center selects a connected base station with a cell phone based on the received signal power from it. Then, the unselected base stations discard the received signal from the cell phone. In this paper, we propose a method, which the macro base station combines the received signal at all available micro base stations based on the maximum ratio criterion. The proposed method can reduce the transmitted power of each cell phone without a degradation of transmission quality in comparison with the selection diversity. By computer simulations, we compare the proposed method and the conventional method in several cases. The transmitted power using the proposed method is lower than that of the conventional one under the conditions that the transmission quality is a constant value. Especially, the proposed method improves an efficiency of the transmitted power with the increasing number of the base stations. |
