Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) For cognitive radios operating in a frequency band owned by a legacy wireless communication system (often called primary system), the interference from the primary system has been considered as a major disturbance that limits the opportunity to reuse the primary frequency band. However, considering that the primary system is a legacy system whose transmission parameters can be known to the newly deployed cognitive radios, the interference from the primary system should not be always treated as a Gaussian-like noise. Following such an observation, in this paper, we advocate to exploit the primary signal for realizing efficient communication among cognitive radios. instead of solely regarding it just as a disturbance. Assuming a time division duplexing (TDD)-based primary system, we show two examples of the intereference exploitation: (1) exploitation in medium access control (MAC) layer to realize a distrubuted medium access for collocated CR networks (exploitation in time domain), and (2) exploitation in physical (PHY) layer where the interference from/to the primary system is cancelled/ mitigated by using adaptive array antenna (exploitation in spatial domain). We show that such an interference exploitation cab help cognitive radios to effeciently reuse the primary spectrum in space and time.
