Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recently, there have been many announcements of joint IEEE 802.11/IEEE 802.16 radio chip which will be embedded into future mobile handset and base station. Because it is highly possible that additional air interfaces such as IEEE 802.15 or optical wireless cloud be integrated as well, there is a trend that cognitive radio (CR) functions will be involved in physical layer (PHY) design for efficiecnt spectrum reuse, Noticing existing PHY-based CR approach may require complicated sensing technology or sophisticated network assistance, in this paper, we consider to realize CR from media access control (MAC) point of view as an alternative approach. We investigate the feasibility of an adaptive MAC scheme to accomodate IEEE 802.11 and IEEE 802.16 into one device and propose necessary functions for this purpose, such as topology control, MAC coordination and interference mitigation in the adaptive MAC scheme design.
