Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Existing hybrid optical networks seeking to achieve both high forwarding capacity and QoS-guaranteed transport for future networks require independent packet switching components for each wavelength. This will be a scalability problem for future WDM networks, upon which more than 1000 wavelengths are expected to be available within one fiber. In order to address the problem, this paper applies Multi-wavelength Optical Packet Switching (MW-OPS) to our proposed network architecture. MW-OPS forwards a packet consisting of a label encoded into one wavelength and a payload encoded into different wavelengths after dividing the payload into multiple pieces. This property reduces the number of components required in core nodes. This paper describes the characteristics of HOTARU and service differentiation with route selection in a HOTARU network, discusses technical issues for the network, the core node architecture, and necessary functions and issues related to the edge node.
