Real-time Optical Buffer Control Method with Packet Reordering

Abstract(in English) To control an optical buffer implemented with multiple optical fiber delay lines switched by optical switches, packet drop probability can be decreased by packet reordering to assign a shorter delay line for a latter packet than for a former packet and, as a result, output the latter packet faster than the former packet, especially when differences between lengths of the fiber delay lines are large. A control circuit for easy planar implementation is designed with pipelined logic for real-time control and is evaluated with simulation.
