Lane state estimation method for vehicle safe driving support system

Abstract(in English) In vehicle safe driving support system, we propose a lane state estimation method from a image captured by car-mounted camera as a elemental technology to recognize situations of out side of the vehicle. The proposed method estimates whether there is a lane at left or right side of the running lane in addition to position and width of the lane from white lines appeared in an image. Assuming the lane boundary is straight line and its direction is parallel to running direction of the vehicle, the lane model is represented by one-dimensional parameter space which is perpendicular to running direction of the vehicle on the road plane. To represent multiple lane, multiple models are prepared. Stabilization of the estimation is attempted using multiple-model particle filter. Furthermore, assessment of degree of risk in passing the vehicle running in front as a example of vehicle safe driving support system is stated.
