Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) To significantly reduce the power dissipation of a motion estimator for MPEG-4/h.26x motion estimation (ME), a fast ME algorithm celled a "Adaptively Assigned Breaking-off Condition Search (A^2BCS)" algorithm was developed. The A^2BCS can adaptively assign the stopping condition of the block-matching (BM) process and can break off the BM process as soon as the best motion vector is detected. It can improve the BM speed by a factor of 11.1 times that of a full-search (FS) algorithm while achieving the same visual quality as that of FS. P of a 90-nm CMOS absolute difference accumulator (ADA) employing both A^2BCS and a "Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling (DVFS)" technique was reduced to 11.68%.
